Often while you’re surfing the Internet you’ll see many advertisements. Some of these claiming their product will speed up your Internet connection and make websites load much faster and all sorts of similar promises. Whilst some of these claims are true, many others unfortunately aren’t. However there are some reliable measures you can adopt to gain access to lightening fast internet speeds.

Internet Connection Type

The speed of your internet will mostly be determined by the type of connection you have. The older dial up modem connections will only go as fast as 56 kbps whilst Cable, ADSL and DSL connections will range from 256 kbps up to a current maximum of 8 Mbps. There are certain measures that can be followed to ensure your internet connection is running at its maximum level.

Different Speeds = Same Problems

It doesn’t matter whether your internet connection is dial up or broadband, there are common factors which will lessen the performance of your surfing speeds. These need to be addressed if your connection is to be fully optimized so you can enjoy faster internet speeds.

Memory

If your PC doesn’t have sufficient memory installed then no matter how high your internet connection is you will still be unable to enjoy fast browsing speeds. You might like to consider upgrading the memory on your PC and there are different options available depending on how much money you are willing to spend. Also, make sure there are no programs running in the background whilst you are browsing the internet. These use up lots of memory and can severely limit your connection speeds.

Pop-Ups

A lot of the time whilst surfing the internet you will notice pop ups appearing on your browser. These are not only annoying but also use up a considerable amount of bandwidth which will slow down your connection. There are web browsers available that will automatically block these online pests.

Adware and Spyware

The World Wide Web is full of these malicious files that load themselves silently on to your PC. They spy on your browsing habits and gather information and can pose a significant threat to your system. To rectify this problem it is wise to install various anti spyware software, most of which is available free of charge to download from the internet. Remember to update and run this software regularly. We highly recommend running a free spyware scan from a trusted spyware software company.

Viruses

Internet users may find occasionally that their computer is infected with a virus. These can pose a serious security threat and also use up considerable amounts of bandwidth which will in turn slow down your browsing speeds. Install some anti virus software on your PC and run scans regularly. Remember also to check frequently for updates.
